Troop Permission Slip Paddle Inn Waiver

By completing this form, you are signing up to attend the 2011 whitewater raft trip to the Nantahala River. This form is for each individual. Each adult and Scout must submit this form, the troop permission slip and download and sign the Paddle Inn Waiver if you are planning on attending. Please bring the Paddle Inn Waiver with you to scouts!

We are having 1 guided rafts (raft with an official raft guide) for non-swimmers and younger scouts with limited swimming or paddling abilities. The remaining rafts will be led by adult leaders. Boat assignments will be made during the trip. (you will be told which boat you are in. ie. boat 1, boat 2...) The SPL will assign boat crew leaders.

Cost of the Trip:  

  • $40 For Raft Trip  & Camping
     

  • $10 (Optional) 2nd afternoon trip (1 or 2 person Funyak Trip)
    Not recommended for scouts younger than 13 years old.
     

  • Souvenirs: You can't go on a trip on the "Nanty" without bringing home a souvenir. So bring some cash to buy a T-shirt or something to remember the trip by.

  • Photos: There will be a photographer that will take your photo  coming over "Little Wesser". You can purchase your photo at the outpost or when you get home online..

Please be advised...Everyone attending must have the following completed prior to the trip or no trip... sorry bro...
  1. All waivers, permission slips signed by parents or guardians (this will be available online soon)
  2. Money paid in full at time of registration. (Mr. Dalton will be handling the money... I will screw it up)
  3. BSA Safety Afloat training completed. Training will be offered this month. 
  4. Complete a Swim Test and be at the swimmer level. (Summer camp swim test counts)
    If you are not at the swimmer level you can still come but maybe not raft; there are other things you can do.

What: Rafting and Duckie Experience!

When:

Where: Paddle Inn Outfitters; Nantahala River (15 min. from Bryson City, NC or 4 hours from Charlotte)

Camping: Nantahala/
Wesser Campground; Wesser, NC
Camp is 4 miles from outfitters, so we'll need carpool to Paddle Inn.
 
Why: Cause it's fun!

Trip Environmental /Conservation project:  To be determined by PLC (Hint... Leave No Trace)

Climate: 60's-80's during the day, 30's -50's night; windy; rain anytime

Cellular Service: Verizon & U S Cellular

Power: None (your car)

Fuel/gas: Cheaper here than there by .20 cents a gallon

Bathrooms/Showers: Walking distance: Both are across the street at the outfitter

Money: Money for wetsuit, food on the way up and back, T-shirt at Outfitter store, tip for the guide (optional). 

Leaders: Keep your receipts for fuel recovery costs by troop

 
The Schedule:

 
Friday:

Departure: Christ Covenant Parking Lot at 3:30 pm. (Traffic was a beast last time so we are leaving earlier)
Arrive around 9 pm at the river. Hope you know how to set a tent up at night. 

Meal Enroute: Bag Supper or eat before you arrive (1 bathroom stop)

Saturday:
 
  • Breakfast at the campsite (Bring Stoves) Only one campfire ring
  • Morning Raft Trip (Everyone)
  • Lunch back at the campsite
  • Afternoon duckie trip (Optional)
 
Sunday: 
  • Breakfast prior to departure
  • Depart around 8 am (1 bathroom stop)
  • Home around 12 pm-1 pm

 
Cost for the raft trip is:
  • Camping $7.00/per person per night ($14.00 each/2 nights)
  • Guide Assisted Raft Trip $21.00/per person (we'll have a sign up for those wishing to go with a trained guide)
  • Self Guided $18.00/per person
  • Optional Second Trip $10.00/person Single Duck, Double, or Triple Ducks or anything in the yard (Price is subject to change if we get discounts again)
  • Free Pictures of your group on CD
  • There are wetsuits for rent, bring cash for the wetsuit if you want one. The water temperature is 45 degrees!
